1. Beaches - Charleston also offers the some of the nicest beaches in South Carolina such as Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, Kiawah island, Seabrook Island, and the world famous Folly Beach.  Folly Beach has some of the best surfing on the east coast, and it is not only where numerous surf competitions are held, but the most popular place to visit is the "wash out" at Folly Beach. If surfing doesn't interest you, all of Charleston's beaches are perfect for swimming, fishing, or just getting a tan with friends. If you want the water but not the beach we even offer Lake Moultrie in Moncks Corner for fishing, swimming or jet skiing. Both Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island are great for families and have easy access to great restuarants.

2. History-  The historical aspect of Charleston is what attracts many of its visitors and residents. South of Broad Street (The Battery area) is generally considered to be the most historic area of downtown, but historical homes and areas can be found throughout Charleston. Carriage tours shown above take visitors throughout the city with interesting facts about the houses.

3. Plantations- Middleton Place, Magnolia, Drayton Hall, and Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant are the four major plantations in the Charleston area. They all have special events, and offer tours of the houses, grounds, and gardens to the public. Seeing them truly gives one a sense of what it must have been like to live in their time period.

4. Weather/Climate- The weather and temperate climate attracts many people to Charleston. Whether you want to live downtown, or out by the beach near Folly, Isle of Palms, or Sullivans Island, the weather will be a big part of why you love Charleston. The semi-tropical climate allows for rich vegetation and streets lined with Palmetto and Palm trees. The warm weather and sunshine heat up the ocean making it perfect for swimming or relaxing. More details can be found in the local in formation section of this website.

Pleasant County Park, Folly Beach Park, and the endless amount of tennis, swimming, biking, camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking, sailing, and hunting that are available make this the perfect city for any outdoorsmen. Outdoor magazine rated Charleston S.C. as one of the top 50 cities in America to live in.

King Street has many high end shops and art and antique dealers.

Charleston also offers one of the biggest shipping ports in the south-east, a large manufacturing field, and a strong military presence. 13. Golfing- Charleston has any number of golf courses including Kiawah's The Ocean Course home to last years Senior PGA tournament. There are dozens of both private and public courses in the area. My partner Jimmy Murray was a professional golfer and worked at The Charleston Country Club for five years and the James Island Municipal course.

14. A Solid Investment- Charleston is growing rapidly which has triggered the revitalization of the older areas.  This is mainly evident in the North Charleston Park Circle area and the Downtown Charleston area.  In North Charleston, the old navy base is under-going a total renovation to bring down the old abandoned buildings in the area and replace them with new sleek office units.  This is also considered the Noisette Creek project and you can find more information about this in our local information.  Century Oaks has plans to redevelop part of the area to add new subdivisions.  The existing subdivisions will be revamped and the whole infrastructure will be redeveloped to make way for the huge growth expected in the North Charleston area. Thanks to the College of Charleston, MUSC, and Trident Technical College, and investors in the downtown Charleston area, the older homes in need of repair are being fixed up boosting up the entire area's real estate values. Charlestonians aspire to keep the historic aspect of the city preserved the same way it has been for hundreds of years.

15. The People- One of the best features of Charleston are the people that live there. It is the kind of town where one always has the opportunity to meet new people, or stop and chat with old friends on the street. It has all of the benefits of a major metropolitan area, with the comforts of a small town. The laidback and friendly nature of the people here is a major benefit of living in the area.
